Private Lessons with Swim Gently
Summer of 2026: Glen Allen/Richmond, VA
What & Who?
These lessons are for swimmers over the age of 6 months & their in-water support person (if applicable). For young swimmers, the lessons include a story, a song, asking them to do a few brave tries, playing some games & closing with a song. For older swimmers, it's less structured and more activity based.
Whoever joins the swimmer as the support person will be asked to listen to instruction, demonstrate skills, support the swimmer when they are practicing & to be encouraging. Read all the glorious details here.
Pool
You must provide the pool and it’s often wise to be discrete about lessons - we can call these swimming playdates when necessary. It is wise to check with KJ about the pool conditions and get approval before booking. Generally, pools provided need to be 80* or warmer and within a 20 mile radius of Glen Allen, VA.

Support People
When there are multiple participants, it is ideal for each swimmer to have their own support person but it is not required unless the swimmer is under 4 years old, then one-on-one is required. Please read more at the FAQ page about support people.
Sharing Lessons
When private swim lessons are shared between multiple families It is the responsibility of the booking party to navigate the splitting of cost between yourselves as well as communicating about scheduling changes.
Prices are:
1 swimmer (within 5 miles of 4200 Harwin Place Glen Allen 23060) $45
1 swimmer (further than 5 miles) $50
2 swimmers $60 (total)
3 swimmers $75 (total)
4 swimmers $90 (total)
5 swimmers (max # per lesson) $100 (total)
+ a travel fee of $1/mile for any distance greater than 15 miles from 4200 Harwin Place Glen Allen, VA 23060
Refunds & Cancellations:
There is no penalty for cancellation when lessons are canceled within 24 hours & these may be rescheduled or transferred to another swimmer.
Lessons canceled within 24 hours of their scheduled time or when clients do not show up are non-refundable. Last-minute cancellations will be excused at the instructor’s discretion in the case of sudden onset symptoms of illness such as GI Issues, fever or severe coughing.
Refunds
Families who book & pay for private lessons who then decide to cancel them 48 hours or more before they are used will be given a refund less a $15 booking fee. Please allow 7-14 business days for this refund to be processed. Paid lessons may be transferred to another date with no penalties/fees, transferred to another individual or donated to the scholarship fund.
Inclement Weather
During the Summer afternoon thunderstorms are quite common. We follow the American Red Cross Lightning Safety guidelines at the discretion of the lifeguard on staff which means when we hear nearby thunder the pool will be closed for half and hour. When lessons are canceled because of lightning/thunder/rain KJ will do the very best to communicate this with swimmers families in a timely manner when possible. They will be given a credit towards a future lesson. *If* more than ⅔ of the lesson has already occurred before thunder/lightning the lesson will be considered completed.
